In 2022 I undertook a wonderful online course 'Form to Freedom - Weaving for Fibre Sculpture' with Fibre Artist Harriet Goodall who is such an inspiring teacher. My love for foraging, drying and reusing natural materials and the skills I learned has carried on beyond the course. I hope you enjoy seeing some of the results below.
The background for this textile piece, ‘One Gone Every Minute’, was created by layering recycled fabric and paper, collage style. I then sketched into it using free machining and some hand stitching.
The ‘In my Night Garden’ series developed from my using a child’s book ‘In the Night Garden’ for an altered book project. This set me thinking about my garden at night and so I embarked on photographing it in the dark and used these photographs in my altered book. From there I started doing gelli prints and in this series I scanned and printed the gelli prints onto fabric transfer paper. Once transferred onto fabric, I free machined and hand stitched into the images
My rusty series came about from eco-dyeing paper with rusty metal and tea. I then intuitively hand stitched into them responding to the marks.
